Dulaang UP Restagtes The Dressing Room: That Which Flows Away Ultimately Becomes Nostalgia / Ang Dressing Room: Kung Saan Lubusang Pangungulila ang Dulot ng Agos ng Panahon

Image
After a successful run in 2016, Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas restages its critically-acclaimed production, “The Dressing Room: That Which Flows Away Ultimately Becomes Nostalgia” and its Filipino translation, “Ang Dressing Room: Kung Saan Lubusang Pangungulila ang Dulot ng Agos ng Panahon.” In a time of reflection and recovery, the play echoes the aftermath of World War II in Japan in an ironically witty and melancholic way. The story follows the lives of four actresses preparing backstage while waiting for their cue to enter onstage. These actresses take turns telling their stories, each expressing an obsessive desire to perform the lead role, which ignites a comic yet dramatic narrative about shared memories that reveal their aspirations and frustrations. Frances Makil-Ignacio, Ces Quesada, Missy Maramara, Roeder CamaƱag, Bobby Martino, Mitoy Sta. Ana, Maxine Ignacio, Jude Matthew Servilla, and Hariette Damole topbill the 1977 post-war Japanese play by Shimizu Kunio, bas...

QUICK REVIEW: #AllOutOfLoveMNL is Simple but it Works

Image
I just saw All Out Of Love last night and initial reviews have informed me that its story line is quite simple. I don't disagree. Its timeline is short, just an evening until the early morning and main characters are few. The strength of the show is in its actors and how the songs do not feel too much for a jukebox musical. The simplicity works because you do not feel overwhelmed. While it may be predictable, you are able to focus on how timeless Air Supply songs actually are. If you are a fan of the band, go and watch it and just enjoy. Go nostalgic over the wonderful vocals of the whole cast, especially MiG's, Tanya's, and Rachel's. This one's a four out of five stars for me.

The making of legendary band Queen in "Bohemian Rhapsody"

Image
The ground-breaking and iconic band Queen have defied the odds, remaining vanguards of music and pop culture over the decades. In the trendiest clubs around the world, DJs frequently play Queen hits, along with music from many contemporary artists whom Queen inspired. Meanwhile, until today, in football stadiums round the globe, fans stomp-stomp-clap in unison, and chant Queen’s anthemic ‘We Will Rock You’. Queen’s brand of music and beat is irresistible, the style, timeless. Transcending generations, unlike many 70s and 80s groups that came and went, Queen remains as relevant today as they were then. Directed by Bryan Singer, “Bohemian Rhapsody” stars Rami Malek in an uncanny performance as Freddie Mercury, charting Queen’s extraordinary story, from the band’s roots as bright London college students, to the dazzling heights of international stardom, when they filled stadiums across the world at record-breaking concerts, including the legendary 1985 performance at Live Aid, whic...

PETA’S A Game of Trolls Returns this October 2018!

Image
“Martial law is the best thing that happened to the Philippines in 1972. We won’t be the developing country that we are right now if it wasn’t for the Marcoses. Learn your history,” says the social media account without a real name. Pro-HR netizens will probably go beastmode on statements like these. But before you go lit AF, maybe it’s good to take a step back, look at the bigger picture and think if “making patol” online will do you any good. Instead of wasting precious time arguing with faceless mythical beings who hide behind screens, why not log-out, get off your mobile phone or laptop, and invite family and friends to go to the theater with you, and watch A GAME OF TROLLS, PETA’s martial law musical for millennials (and millennials-at-heart!). But what’s it about? A GAME OF TROLLS is the story of Hector (Myke Salomon / TJ Valderrama), a professional keyboard warrior for Marshalls of History, a troll center who is running a pro-Martial Law campaign lead by Bimbam (...
