Time To #UpgradeYourWorld!

If you have a device running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, chances are you’ve seen the reserve option on the lower right end of your taskbar. If you’ve confirmed through this icon, congratulations! Your upgrade must already be downloading and soon you’ll receive a notification that the 3GB file is ready. July 29, 2015 is the global release date of Windows 10 and in the Philippines, the media launch-slash-lunch was at Hole in the Wall, Century City Mall, the home of upgraded comfort food. @maeriveramoreno of #MicrosoftPH giving a full demo of #Windows10 #GK #UpgradeYourWorld A photo posted by @saulternative on Jul 28, 2015 at 9:30pm PDT Mae Rivera-Moreno, Business Lead for Windows Products of Microsoft Philippines, along with host Bianca Valerio demoed the features of the new OS. The most notable for me was Microsoft Edge. It’s a very light and fast browser that could actually redeem the company in the browser game. I definitely would be able to use its reading mode an...

Postcards In The Time Of Social Media, An #InspireEveryDay Encounter

Image
I went to Ayala Museum's #InspireEveryDay event today with Leo  and I picked up this postcard by  Kenny : My postcard from @kennyisaperson! #InspireEveryDay Hello there! A photo posted by @saulternative on Jul 24, 2015 at 11:48pm PDT During our morning stay in the museum, the most interesting activity for me was the postcard wall that you see right when you enter. Here, you could use your Kindness Currency. You get 500 during the start and you give 100 to enter the area. You would then be able to get a chance to choose a postcard that actually has a message from the one who made it. Designs are really varied and each one is inspiring. A few caught my eye while in line but the one made by Kenny drew me in. Maybe it was Kismet or whatever you would call it but it's amazing to pick up a postcard whose creator has similar qualities as you. She left crumbs at the back of her photograph and I followed them to her Social Media accounts. According to her Tumb...

Take A Splice Out Of This Donut Burger!

Image
We all know that traffic is at its worst every Friday evening in Metro Manila and last night I had to take two rides in the evening before getting to The Portal at Greenfield District, Mandaluyong. Splice is located right in front of where they put up the Weekend Market. The place was comfortable as it was spacious even if it would be packed. All the traffic-related stress was gone when I entered. The 8 Hour Beef Belly Confit was the most recommended but I thought of veering away from the usual and I was drawn to their Donut Burgers. After a quick browse, I knew that The Lisa Burger was for me. The Lisa Burger combines the sweetness of a salted caramel donut bun, the spiciness of the honey mustard dijon, and the goodness of an all-beef burger patty. I was warned that it might be too small for my appetite but it was surprisingly filling. Eating it was probably the longest I ate a burger not because of its size but because I want to savor every bite of it. One thing I did wrong ...

REVIEW: Ampalaya The Musical

Image
It has been a while since I’ve seen a play that has an orchestra pit and I was immediately delighted when I saw that Ampalaya The Musical has one. Orkestra Sin Arco, translated orchestra without bows or orchestra of plucked instruments, is a rondalla consisting of bandurrias, octavinas, la-ud guitars, a bass, and the Bajo de Una. Conducted by the renowned Maestro Michael Dadap, the orchestra welcomed every audience member with a relaxing journey to the town of Sariwa through an overture. This reminded me of cultural performances in the province, such as the ones in Villa Escudero. It was a nostalgic trip worth making and effective in waking my sense of wonder to prepare me for the coming symphony of colors, sound, and language. A Nuno sa Punso opens the play with a reminder that it is okay to be different and that you should never let your greed tear your heart. This coming from a wise man who is taking a break from meditation. Yes, even wise men deserve a vacation from gathering...

Saturday Bel-Air Food Crawl + Kapitolyo NIghtcap

Image
That Saturday night was not extraordinary but it was opportune for an impromptu dinner with my friend Lou. What was supposed to be just a quick meet turned out to be a whole night of food, fun, and cheesy as it may sound, friendship. First Stop: Sweet Ecstasy I have been hearing about how good the burgers of Sweet Ecstasy was and it was about time that I go and visit. I booked a GrabCar when Lou came and thanks to their current code, LEGALLYGRAB, our P115 ride became only P15. Approaching Jupiter corner Asteroid in Bel-Air, we expected the place to be packed. We got there at around a bit after 7PM but it had still a few tables available. Lou pointed out that it must have been because of the long weekend. We proceeded to order a burger and a shake each. Lou got the Nutella and I got the Black Bear. Hamburger + Black Bear The burger was completely satisfying! A brioche bun branded with an "X" hugs the lettuce, tomato, and the rightly grilled burger patty. Th...

Asia's First Spotify Emerge Winner Revealed!

Are you Team Shehyee or Team Marion? Spotify has chosen Philippines to be the first country in Asia to stage their Emerge contest. Last night's winner joined the ranks of Emerge champions Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Bastille. Out of the 10 chosen artists, Shehyee and Marion Aunor survived prior eliminations by having the most number of social media shares, and follows plus listens on Spotify. The Filipino audience has spoken and Shehyee proved to be the most loved! The announcement was made at 12 Monkeys, Century City Mall. Cloudfone provided some excitement by giving away a tablet and 2 phones and GrabTaxi gave free rides for those who attended. Spotify Emerge is powered by Globe.
