5 Reasons Why You Should Watch Red Turnip Theater's Tribes
With performances from August 4 to September 4 at Power Mac Center Spotlight, Circuit Makati, Red Turnip's latest play, Tribes, is a must-see! Here are the reasons why:
1. The Cast
During the Press Night, Director Topper Fabregas described his cast as a dream team, a dream cast. And they definitely are. Each cast member's effective acting tells their character's individual stories effectively. So effective that you end up almost intimately knowing each one. Grab a ticket now to witness Dolly de Leon, Teroy Guzman, Cris Pasturan, Thea Yrastorza, Kalil Almonte, and Angela Padilla move, speak, and sign to the struggles of identity, community, family.
2. The Stage and Seating
TicketWorld's layout
translates to this when you enter the theater:
The red zone is P1,800 per seat and the rest is priced at P1,200. Tickets are available at TicketWorld.
Each side literally gives a different perspective as the actors move in and out of the stage. For the widest view get a red seat from the biggest section.
3. Scene 7
No, you don't have to count scenes. You'll know it when it starts. The actors were unainimous in citing this scene as one of the highlights pof the play. Just make sure that you ready your heart for it.
4. The Script
Despite being about a Jewish British family, Tribe is very relatable. As much as it opens one to the struggles of the main character, it also shows the struggle of a person with mental illness, plus those of people who can't get through life they way want to. Everyone in it is practically an egotist but it is clear where each is coming from. Bite and chew on every word and the play might even help you in dealing with your relationships.
5. Everyone Involved Behind the Scenes
Leading them are the following:
Set Design: Ed Lacson
Production Design and Costume: Marta Lovina
Lighting Design: John Batalla
Sound Design: Teresa Barrozo
Sign Language Instructor: John Xandre Baliza
