Eisa Jocson's Highly Explorative Collaboration with Ballet Philippines, "Your Highness," to Premieire on July 27 Before Going on a European Tour
Eisa Jocson, world-renowned disruptor in the field of dance, collaborates with Ballet Philippines for the second production in her Happyland series, Your Highness.
With Your Highness, the art of dance is explored with well-known ballet characters and popular culture princess archetypes. Not that usual for ballet productions, the dancers went beyond the usual boundaries by finding their voices, thus adding another dimension to their performance.
The performances scheduled for July 27 (8PM) and July 28 (3PM, 8PM) are only the beginning for this exciting new production. After these, this creation is scheduled to perform at several major European performing arts festivals across August to September of this year. This is possible as Your Highness is a production of Ballet Philippines and Künstlerhaus Mousonturm Frankfurt am Main (Germany), in co-production with Internationales Sommerfestival Kampnagel (Germany), Zurcher Theater Spektakel (Switzerland), and La Batie - Festival de Geneve (Switzerland).
The team started its collaboration with the dancers last March. Unlike traditional ballets, Your Highness is highly dependent on the input of the dancers. It was through their process that the use of voice was made. You may view excerpts from the rehearsal below:
With Eisa Jocson are Gia Gequinto, Stephanie Cabral, Maila Habagat, Alexis Piel, and Carlo Padoga (Ballet Philippines dancers), Arco Renz and Anna Wagner (dramaturgs), Teresa Barrozo (music and sound design), Florian Bach (lighting design), and Dennis Maristayn (costume design).
If you're still not sold on seeing this, make sure that you check out the ticket price! It's only P800! Way more affordable than going abroad to watch a performance of this caliber.
