"Inside Out" on Sept 10 at RCBC Auditorium

Image
“Inside Out” is a dance concert inspired by the book of the same title. The book is a compilation of lectures of yogini Dadi Janki, who was touted by scientists as having the World’s Most Stable Mind. In 1978, the Medical and Science Research Institute at the University of Texas conducted a study on the brain activity of people who meditated. Dadi Janki’s results showed that while performing actions, lecturing and doing math, her brain waves recorded delta, a state equivalent to deep sleep and regeneration. In most of her lectures, she explains that developing a calm mind under all circumstances is based on using the powers of the soul—peace, love, purity, happiness and truth. “Inside Out” will be held on Sept. 10, 7:30 pm at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza. This one-woman show, performed by Marge Enriquez, is directed by Bong Cabrera and choreographed by Kris-Belle Paclibar. The concert will be followed by a short talk by British guest speaker, Denise Lawrence, o...

The eldest and heir to the throne is the pompous Prince Pedro; the second son is the dashing Prince Diego; and, the youngest, the kind-hearted Prince Juan. Their idyllic life is shattered when King Fernando is struck by a mysterious sickness and can only be healed by the song of the mythical bird, Adarna. Anyone wanting to capture the bird must travel to its ho...

In a word, Dolorosa is miraculous! #DolorosaTA

Image
It is meta, it is casual, it is formal, it is poetic, it is period, it is modern, it is natural, it is paranormal, it is supernatural, it is romantic, it is comedic, it is family drama, it is psychological, it is philosophical. Simply put, it really is miraculous. This whirlwind of genres are seamlessly quilted in 3 acts of awe. Given that it was in 3 acts meant that you would be in the Doreen Black Box for at least 3 hours. Don't worry, there are 2 intermissions, one after every act. Here's a quick summary of the play: The first act is a period play in itself. There was a bit of dissonance while I was watching since they were in Spanish Occupation era clothes but everyone was speaking in English. After maybe a few minutes, I got used to it. I'm not really a fan of period works but the storytelling kept me in my seat. It moves to the time of the Japanese Occupation and then to sometime in the present. Common among all acts are the struggles of the women of eac...
