With music by Next To Normal's Tom Kitt and Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ateneo Blue Repertory promises to bring it! #BringItOnblueREP
Coming from its critically-acclaimed re-staging of Spring Awakening and its sold out run of The Theory of Relativity, Ateneo Blue Repertory maintains its momentum by taking on another set of fresh talent for its 28th Season Newbie Production, Bring It On: The Musical. Loosely based on the cult-classic film by Jessica Bendinger, this production is an original take by its creators on the spirit, grit, and hard work put into cheerleading.
With an original story by Jeff Whitty (Avenue Q), music by Pulitzer- and Tony Award-winning composer, Tom Kitt (Next to Normal), lyrics by Broadway lyricist, Amanda Green (High Fidelity), and music and lyrics by the Tony Award-winning creator of Hamilton and In The Heights, Lin Manuel-Miranda, Bring It On: The Musical is a story that reveals the heat and intensity behind competition, yet emphasizes the invaluable bonds and camaraderie created through sportsmanship.
This production will be helmed by co-directors Franco Ramos (Madagascar, Miong, All Out Of Love, Hair, Rent) and Abi Sulit (Rak of Aegis, Sa Wakas - A Pinoy Rock Musical, Spring Awakening, Theory of Relativity) who are also choreographer and musical director, respectively; Anissa Aguila (Real Life Fairy Tales - Local Run and South Korea Run, CARRIE: The Musical) as set designer, John Robert Yam (Spamalot, The Vagina Monologues, Mula Sa Buwan) as sound designer, and Jethro Nibaten (Mula Sa Buwan, The Medium, Stop Kiss) as lighting designer. Working closely alongside these theatre professionals are a cast and crew composed of university students, ready to challenge the future of the Philippine theatre industry.
Bring It On: The Musical will run from November 7-24, 2019 at the Rizal Mini Theater, Faber Hall, Ateneo de Manila University.
