Tanghalang Ateneo Unveils Dystopic Drama "Ardór" in its 45th Theater Season: Love and Revolution

Tanghalang Ateneo, the prestigious and long-standing theater company of the Loyola Schools of Ateneo de Manila, will present its exciting new play, "Ardór," with Guelan Varela-Luarca as its visionary writer and director. This dystopic masterpiece will provoke thought and stir emotions as it opens in August 2023.

The play dares to ask a bold and unsettling question: Can anarchy be the only hope for social change? "Ardór" delves into the intricacies of the relationship between a young, angry, and alienated activist and their seven-year-old cousin, who may be an avatar, an indigo child, or even a messiah.

As the plot unfolds, "Ardór" follows the activists as they attempt to stage a revolution, ready to sacrifice everything—sanity, love, and life—for a nation that has betrayed and deeply traumatized them. The story explores themes of patriotism, beauty, truth, and the profound desire for change.

Guelan Varela-Luarca leads the production's artistic team. The play features a talented and diverse cast, including Zo de Ocampo and Yani Lopez as Z, Jam Binay and Camille Banawa as Astrid, and Teia Contreras and Cholo Ledesma as Kali, accompanied by a skilled ensemble of actors.

The production also boasts a robust crew of dedicated Tanghalang Ateneo members who will ensure a seamless and unforgettable experience for the audience.

"Ardór" will have matinee showtimes at 02:00 PM on August 26, September 02, and September 09, and evening performances at 07:00 PM on August 18, August 25, August 26, September 01, September 02, September 08, and September 09. Non-Atenean general viewers can purchase tickets starting July 23, 2023, at PhP 500.
