Tickets for ‘The Half-Life of Marie Curie’ Are Now Available—Don't Miss Out!

Excitement is building as The Half-Life of Marie Curie prepares for its Philippine debut this August! Originally staged off-Broadway in 2019, this remarkable play is set to captivate audiences at the Doreen Black Box in Areté, Ateneo de Manila University. Presented by MusicArtes, Inc., and co-presented by the Philippine Theater Actors Guild, Inc. and the Ateneo Fine Arts Department, this production starts its opening weekend on August 23, 2024.

Written by Lauren Gunderson, a celebrated American playwright, The Half-Life of Marie Curie delves into the life of Marie Curie after a scandalous affair threatens her reputation and career. Seeking refuge with her friend and colleague Hertha Ayrton, an electromechanical engineer and suffragette, Curie finds herself on the British coast. The play explores the deep bond of female friendship and the strength of two brilliant women as they navigate their lives as mothers, widows, and trailblazers in scientific inquiry.

Dr. Kiara Pipino, a highly respected theatre director and Associate Professor, will be at the helm of this production. With over twenty years of experience directing nationally and internationally, Dr. Pipino brings a wealth of expertise to the project. Her previous works, including Everyone’s a Hero with Someone Else’s Tits and Clytemnestra, have received acclaim, and her background in Italian Commedia dell’Arte and the Michael Chekhov technique ensures a powerful and insightful performance.

The cast features the talented Missy Maramara as Marie Curie and Caisa Borromeo as Hertha Ayrton. Maramara, known for her recent roles in GRACE (2024) and A Very Good Girl (2023), also directs and works as an intimacy coordinator. Borromeo, recognized for her direction of Sa Babaeng Lahat and her award-winning performance in Little Women, adds her own impressive credentials to the production.
