🔥 A Timely Revival: In The Eyes Of The People Shines a Light on Truth, Power, and Consequence
After the successful restaging of Othello, CAST (Company Of Actors in Streamlined Theatre) and Mad Child Productions return with a fiery, fearless new collaboration: In The Eyes Of The People — a bold adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People, reimagined for the Filipino stage by acclaimed playwright-director Nelsito Gomez.
Set in the idyllic town of Santa Cristina in the Visayas, the play unfolds as the community prepares for the grand opening of the much-hyped Santa Cristina Hot Springs. At the helm are Mayor Peter Lopez and his sister, Chief Scientist Tricia Lopez-Ramos — but two weeks before launch, a discovery threatens to unravel it all: an unknown bacteria contaminates the springs.
What follows is a searing, high-stakes drama that explores the dangerous intersection of science, politics, and public perception. What is truth worth when it threatens economic dreams? Who decides what’s best “in the eyes of the people”?
🧬 Old Story, Urgently New Lens
Nelsito Gomez, who both directs and adapts the play, spent four years shaping Ibsen’s century-old masterpiece into a work that resonates with today’s audiences — particularly Filipino ones. “Reshaping it into a loving but privileged Filipino family, and exploring the issues of the original through a modern lens has been a four-year journey of trial and error,” he shares. “But through my wonderful collaborations with this amazing cast and excellent dramaturge... this nearly hundred and fifty year old Norwegian play will (hopefully) resonate strongly with a Filipino audience of today.”
🎭 Stellar Cast, Intimate Stage
Featuring an electric ensemble of Manila’s finest actors and emerging talents, the cast includes:

-
Nor Domingo as Alvin Ramos
-
Jam Binay as Pauline Ramos
-
Zoë De Ocampo as Enzo Santiago
