Walang Aray 2025 Returns with Jolina Magdangal and Ice Seguerra: PETA’s Hit Filipino Musical Gets a Star-Studded Comeback
If you missed it the first time—or if you simply want to fall in love all over again—here’s your second chance. The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA)’s multi-awarded Filipino musical comedy, Walang Aray, makes its much-anticipated return to the PETA Theater Center in Quezon City from August 29 to October 12, 2025. This critically acclaimed musical sold out multiple runs in 2023 and swept the 2024 Gawad Buhay Awards. Now it’s back—sharper, funnier, and bigger than ever.
Inspired by Severino Reyes’ zarzuela Walang Sugat, Rody Vera’s modern, satirical reimagining fuses revolutionary themes with romance, irreverent humor, and catchy musical numbers. With a refreshed script, a new song by Vince Lim, and a few curveballs in casting, the 2025 version promises even more reasons to laugh, swoon, and cheer.
Jolina Magdangal and Ice Seguerra Join the Cast of Walang Aray
The big headline? Two Filipino pop icons step into the spotlight:
Jolina Magdangal takes on the over-the-top role of Doña Juana, injecting her signature charm and flamboyance into the zarzuela-inspired world of Walang Aray. Expect pure camp, comedic gold, and maximalist realness from one of OPM's most beloved queens.
Meanwhile, Ice Seguerra plays the witty, loyal, and endearing Lucas, Tenyong’s ever-reliable best friend. Ice’s smooth comedic timing and heartfelt delivery bring new depth to this crowd-favorite sidekick role.
Their addition gives the musical an even broader appeal—reaching beyond theater circles into mainstream Filipino pop culture, making this rerun the must-watch theater event of the year.
Returning Favorites and New Triple-Threats
Back in their iconic roles are Gio Gahol and Jon Abella as Tenyong, with Shaira Opsimar and Marynor Madamesila reprising Julia. Joining them for the first time is breakout performer Lance Reblando, who puts a fresh spin on Julia with a show-stopping debut.
They’re joined by a powerhouse cast of returning and new talents:
-
Original cast: Bene Manaois (Miguel), Kiki Baento (Monica), Carlon Matobato (Lucas), Neomi Gonzales (Juana), Gie Onida and Csairus Habla (Don Tadeo), Johnnie Moran (Padre Alfaro)
-
New additions: Rendell Sanchez (Miguel), Divine Aucina (Monica), Gold Villar-Lim (Juana), Roi Calilong (Padre Alfaro)
-
Ensemble: Jarred Jaicten, Gerard Dy, Yeyin de la Cruz, Ayla Garcia, Ada Tayao, James Lanante, MC Dela Cruz, Bomba Ding, Otep Madriaga, Miah Canton, Matel Patayon, and Zoe Damag
Direction, Score, and New Surprises
Still under the direction of Ian Segarra, with Norbs Portales now as Associate Director, this refreshed version keeps the heart and soul of the original but levels it up with tighter pacing, topical references, and one new song from Gawad Buhay-winning composer Vince Lim.
Whether you’re watching for the first time or the fifth, the rerun is a perfect way to kick off PETA’s 58th Theater Season, with its timely theme: Love and Power.
