Heroism: Always a Cause for Celebration #WUheroes

Image
In time for National Heroes Day, 25 Filipino migrants were selected by Western Union to be known as Heroes for Better. The company spent months to look for those who take time to make a difference and have a positive impact in their communities. Gabe Mercado introducing Heroes for Better During the launch at The Blackbird at the Nielson Tower, 3 of the heroes were present to tell us about their personal advocacies. From Left: Nilo Beltran, Edmond Corpuz, and Nestor Puno Nilo Beltran experienced working in Saipan. His migrant story started when he wanted to change his situation here in the country. Nilo believes that when the Philippines becomes economically better than surrounding countries, it would be possible for us to stay here and not look for greener pastures elsewhere. REVIEW: Ballet Manila's Flight 1!

It was the first night that I actually saw a full ballet show and I didn’t know what to expect. Most of my peers declined the offer to accompany and most of them thought of ballet as boring and simply not for them. I know that modern choreographies are exciting and I’ve only seen them on TV, even if I was alone, I knew that I was going to have a good time. Done watching #Flight1 of @balletmanila. If you weren't there tonight, you've got to catch tomorrow night's Flight 2, which would feature a totally different set of performances. Witness the greatness of ballet while being among the greatest. The show's energy is amazing! #BalletManila #Flight A photo posted by @saulternative on Jul 31, 2015 at 7:29am PDT Ballet Manila is a 20 year old ballet company whose Artistic Director is none other than the most famous Filipina Prima Ballerina, The Lisa Macuja-Elizalde. Need To See A Good Story? Go to Viddsee

I've heard about Viddsee a while back but it was only recently that I've actually explored the site. It was a tweet about Pepe's Letter that made me go back to it: As I browsed, I saw some familiar films. It was nice to be able to see several Cinemalaya shorts available for my re-viewing. Those and a few I've heard of and those that are highly recommended such as Basaan: My instinct was to explore other Filipino films on the site but a friend told me about Made: Taboo is always great content but being caught off-guard makes a film always sweeter. For this, watch Love Me Not (No Ama Conmigo), Till Morning (Hanggang Umaga), and TheRapist: So far, the best on the site that I've viewed are Going Home (Padulong sa Pinuy-Anan),Ruweda (Wheel): I haven't seen them all but the whole site draws you in to view film after film. Not all the films are for everyone but if you have a deep need to see a good short, this is the site for you. Life is al...
