See the Asian Premiere of Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, New Theater Company Twin Bill Theater's First

Last night was a great night for new theater company Twin Bill Theater as their first show was packed with the Press.

For their maiden production, Twin Bill Theater presents Bert Royal's Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead. The team behind it are Steven Conde, Francis Matheu, Joseph Matheu, Jay Pangilinan, Winter David, Josephus Gayona, Bryan Ladim, and Micky Torres.

The actors include Nel Gomez, Sarah Facuri, Gab Medina, Vince Lim, Maronne Cruz, Kathleen Francisco, Brian Sy, and Camille Velicaria.
Dog Sees God explores how Peanuts characters would have grown up as teenagers. Mature themes such as angst, bullying, abuse, substance and otherwise, are tackled with references from Schultz' franchise. Being an unauthorized parody, fans can easily connect who might have grown up to be who but the narrative can easily stand up on its own.

Twin Bill Theater aims to bring theater to the non-theater going audience by staging it in unconventional locations. Staple and Perk, a bakery/cafe stages this Dog Sees God as it transforms to what could be described a a semi-black box theater. There are only a few rows on each of the 3 sides of the room which makes every performance intimate. The stage is almost literally just right in front of you.
The story begins with the passing of a very beloved character. Slowly, you are reintroduced to the gang and their issues as teenagers. Yes, there will be flashbacks of high school. It's a just-in-case-you-didn't-know note on realities of bullying and how it affects everyone around the person being bullied. It's also an exploration on the reality of death and how those left behind should deal with grief.

You don't need to be a fan, or even familiar with Peanuts, to appreciate this production. If you've survived being 15 and in High School, you can definitely relate to the situations, to the urges, to the tragedies that spice up teenage life. Some of which we leave behind but some stick to our skin.

The unconventional performance space forces the play to be minimalistic yet the props, lighting, sound, and projections effectively enhance the superb acting of the whole cast. The set-up makes the performance pop out of the stage and be right in your face. I imagine that each seating side would give you different exposures of the production. Watching it only once may not give you the full experience of the play. Watch it twice or even thrice!

Now's the time to get off your smartphone and catch a play, even if this is just your first!
