Ateneo Blue Repertory Opens 28th Season with Song Cycle: The Theory of Relativity #blueRELATIVITY2019
After its successful restaging of the critically-acclaimed Spring Awakening, Ateneo Blue Repertory (blueREP) will be presenting the Philippine premiere of Drama Desk-nominated collaborators Neil Bartram and Brian Hill’s The Theory of Relativity this September 2019 at the Fine Arts Black Box Theater.
"Take a Physics manual, blend it with the sound of The Book of Mormon, the hilariously nerdy references of The Big Bang Theory , a sprinkle of Chicago, few drops of Glee, bake it in a Broadway bowl, use all the originality you can have....That’s the successful recipe for the spectacular song cycle, The Theory of Relativity." – Live Like Tom
An uplifting production that touches on the value of shared communities, The Theory of Relativity portrays the universality of human connection amidst a variation of songs and monologues. As a fresh take on themes revolving around finding love, adolescent pressure, sexuality and identity, the song cycle showcases a “compelling array of characters experiencing the joys and heartbreaks, the liaisons and losses, the inevitability and the wonder of human connection.”
The production will be helmed by Pineapple Lab’s Andrei Nikolai Pamintuan as director (Sa Wakas - A Pinoy Rock Musical, Lungs), Abi Sulit (Rak of Aegis, Sa Wakas - A Pinoy Rock Musical, Spring Awakening) as musical director, Ricardo Magno (Tanghalang Ateneo’s Alpha Kappa Omega, Panta Rhei) as movement director, Jodinand Aguillon (Lungs) as set designer, and Miyo Sta. Maria (Spring Awakening) as lighting designer. Working hand-in-hand with these professionals is a cast and crew comprised of university students from Ateneo.
The Theory of Relativity’s show dates include September 12-14, 19-21, 25-29 (8PM) and September 14, 21, 22, 28, 29 (3PM) at the Fine Arts Black Box Theater, Ateneo de Manila University, Quezon City. Tickets will be sold at Php 400 for students and Php 550 for non-students (Php 20 discount will be provided to Ateneo Gabay Scholars, Senior Citizens, and PWDs).
