Choose yourself and find time to take cover in Nicole Laurel Asensio's "Silong" starting August 28

Who can resist a song from Nicole Laurel Asensio?

For those who are not so familiar with this incredibly talented singer, now is the best time to discover her rich music offerings. This is not a surprise for someone whose heritage has overflowing talent in the arts. Rather than being overrun by two raging rivers of talent, she rose above the waters and found her distinct place in an ocean of artists. As a young girl, she got into musical theater and caught the eye (and ear) composer Claude-Michel Schönberg himself! She continued to be part of the theater in the following years. I remember being in awe of her portrayal of Mimi in 9Works Theatrical's production of Rent. That was 2010, in the same year, she continued to gain prominence being the voice of the statement-making all-female rock band General Luna. A few years later, she pursued a solo career and continued to widen her range as she writes, produces, and records her unique music.

In just a few days, we'll be allowed to hear her latest song, "Silong." Some works are so easy to write, and Nicole shared that this was not one of those. Silong resurfaced in her life several times, refusing to be finished each time. And every time, more and more artists get involved, enriching Silong's sound until it lent its full form to be recorded. When it was almost ready, the pandemic hit, setting back the release. It became a source of frustration for Nicole. Still, as she found comfort in The Creator's presence, she pushed through the current situation's challenges will finally release the song this August 28.

In this time that we easily forget that it is okay to choose ourselves, Silong is definitely a song that would give comfort to our weary spirits. Here's part of the lyrics:

“Kung Maibabalik ko lang ang kahapon
Gagawin kong bukas ang Ngayon
Hahayaan lang lang tumila ang ambon
Sa haplos mo sisilong”

Even if we are already months in the pandemic, uncertainties continue to pour. Personally, I've experienced great feelings of helplessness and also a loss. There were a lot of things I couldn't change, and that's okay. My emotions still give me mental gut punches from time to time, but knowing that there are people I could rest my head on and recharge will help keep me sane. I know Nicole's Silong would also help me power through.

While waiting, I cling on by listening to Nicole Laurel Asensio's songs on Youtube. On Facebook, her music is also available here: https://www.facebook.com/nicoleasensiomusic/. She's also on Instagram, using the handle @nicoleasensio there.

Can't wait to hear Silong! I know this will literally extend my life. Thank you for sharing your talent and creativity, Nicole!
