Steel Magnolias is Coming to Cebu this April!

Get ready to be transported to northwest Louisiana and witness the bond among a group of Southern women in the upcoming production of the award-winning Broadway play Steel Magnolias. Directed by Allan Nazareno and Vincent Paul D. Gaton, this comedy-drama by Robert Harling is set to be staged in Cebu on April 1 and 2, 2023, at the CINEWOF Theater in Marcelo Fernan Press Center, Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City.

The play's title suggests that the "female characters are as delicate as magnolias but as tough as steel." The story revolves around a 40-year-old beauty parlor owner, Truvy Jones (Charlene Virlouvet), who generously shares the latest rumors with anyone willing to listen. Her salon, Truvy's Beauty Spot, is the most sought-after in Chinquapin, Louisiana.

Another character, the shy Annelle Dupuy-Despoto (Liana San Diego), wears glasses out of necessity, hair spray to hold her crown up nice and strong, and her young and troubled heart on her sleeve. Claire Belcher (Marlinda Angbetic Tan), the cheerful, gossip-hound, 66-ish widow of the former Mayor, adds to the show's humor and wit.


Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie (Clariza Mae Sevilla) is a young, blushed, a bashful bride with type 1 diabetes who deals with family stresses and complications. Her character is modeled after Susan Harlin Robinson, the sister of Steel Magnolias playwright Robert Harling. Sadly, Susan's life inspired this beautiful and heart-warming play as she went through complications related to her type 1 diabetes.


Ouiser Boudreaux (Dahlia Alegre-Borres), on the other hand, is both mature and childish, lovely but miserable. She is a wealthy old bitty whose sense of humor will shred you. Finally, M'Lynn Eatenton (Yvette Yntig), the overprotective mother hen, spends her time worrying about her daughter's health while being the administrator of the Mental Guidance Center.
