Philippine Baranggay Folk Dance Troupe Set to Enchant the UK with Cultural Dream Tour

Get ready to be swept off your feet as the Philippine Baranggay Folk Dance Troupe (PB) gears up for an enthralling journey across the United Kingdom. With a team of 15 dedicated performers, PB is all set to embark on a month-long Cultural Dream Tour, showcasing the vibrant tapestry of Philippine indigenous and traditional dance. From August 12th to September 3rd, the troupe will captivate audiences across the UK, leaving an indelible mark on the global stage.

Founded in 1946 at the Philippine Normal College by the visionary Dr. Paz Cielo Angeles-Belmonte, PB has evolved into a beacon of Philippine cultural heritage. Over the years, the troupe has remained steadfast in its mission to promote the country's rich music, song, and dance traditions. Carrying forward Mommy Bel's legacy, PB's creative and development teams, along with a dedicated ensemble of dancers and musicians, continue to breathe life into the troupe's performances.

The tour kicks off with a spectacular appearance at the Billingham International Folklore Festival of World Dance 2023 (BIFF2023) from August 12th to 20th in Stockton-on-Tees. Organized by the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF.org), the festival offers a platform for PB to showcase its talents on the international stage. As an Official Partner of UNESCO, CIOFF's mission aligns perfectly with PB's commitment to preserving and celebrating cultural heritage.

Beyond the BIFF2023, PB's journey continues with a two-week stay in London, hosted by its UK affiliate, the Lahing Kayumanggi Dance Company (LK). Collaborating closely with the Philippine Embassy London and the UK Filipino community, PB will conduct workshops, performances, and barrio fiestas. The highlight of their stay will be the mesmerizing performance titled "TIBOK (Pulse)" presented by LK from August 25th to September 3rd.

PB's association with LK spans over three decades, a testament to their shared commitment to cultural preservation and propagation. Through this partnership, PB members have been regular participants in LK's annual European events, contributing to the enrichment of cultural exchanges between the Philippines and Europe.

As a non-profit community group, PB relies on the support of a network of families, friends, sponsors, and supporters. These stakeholders play an integral role in enabling PB to fulfill its mission and maintain its extensive collection of costumes, accessories, props, and musical instruments. The troupe's journey to the UK was made possible thanks to the generosity of these supporters.
