On May 22, the historic Bowers Museum in California will become the stage for an unforgettable fusion of ancient history and modern couture. The spotlight shines on Alexis Bong Monsanto, the Filipino-born Hollywood fashion designer, who will unveil a breathtaking new collection inspired by the Qin Dynasty during the museum's prestigious fundraising gala.

Timed with the launch of the museum’s World of the Terracotta Warriors: New Archaeological Discoveries exhibition, this fashion event promises an evening of cultural richness, luxury, and innovation. Monsanto was specially commissioned by Bowers Museum to create a collection that visually complements the historical exhibit. What he has crafted is nothing short of regal.

Recognized in Los Angeles and beyond as Hollywood’s Fashion Expert, Monsanto is known for creating timeless, feminine silhouettes with meticulous detail. A proud alumnus of Otis College of Art and Design and founder of the Alexis Monsanto Atelier in LA, his designs are characterized by rich fabrics, origami-inspired structures, 3D textile techniques, and dramatic flourishes. For this show, Monsanto draws inspiration from the jewels, stones, and mythological creatures associated with Emperor Qin’s court.

Guests can expect an exquisite parade of hand-painted silks, Swarovski embellishments, embossed surfaces, laser-cut textures, and sculptural tailoring. The collection also incorporates fashion accessories from luxury brands such as Van Cleef & Arpels and Delvaux, adding layers of sophistication with their red-carpet clutches and jewelry.

This gala, chaired by art patron Anne Shih, goes beyond a fashion spectacle. It is a celebration of global culture and creative exchange, blending Eastern heritage with Western artistry. The museum’s audience will be treated not just to clothing but to a masterclass in fashion storytelling.

Monsanto’s career is a testament to vision and resilience. In 2011, he was a finalist in the KTLA5 Catwalk competition and went on to become a fashion commentator during red carpet seasons. He has since earned a spot among LA Fashion Week’s headliners and was named a “runway visionary” by LA Fashion Magazine. His designs have graced celebrities such as Charlize Theron, Kate Beckinsale, Karol G, Mariah Carey, Felicity Huffman, and Jennifer Coolidge, as well as Olympic champions.
