#TotoTheMovie is a Must-See This Season!
"Tol, saan ang lakad natin?"
Toto: "Sa Amerika!"
We've all heard stories of friends, family members, friend of friends, who have that American Dream. We also know that it would take a lot of time, money, and effort just to get the necessary documents to be able to finally make it on American soil. As long as the Filipino has the ability to have a dream, be it American or not, there will be a Toto living within us and among us.
Directory JP Su said that it only takes one person to believe in you for you to be able to get to the next level of your life. Of course, you have to follow through and prove that you can make it. When you look back to where you are now, you'd be able to remember which friends, which mentors, which family members pushed you to get you to the next step. This is essentially what Toto is.
Toto is a dark comedy drama starred by Sid Lucero. You may be used to used to his brooding, highly philosophical roles but in this movie, you'll get a refreshing, light, and easily lovable Sid that shows how versatile he really could be as an actor. Be prepared to see him dance, flirt, and struggle in achieving in getting his visa.
Other than the solid cinematography, sound, and editing, what shines in the film is how the storytelling is easy and not pushed. I'm not the biggest fan of stories of immigrants in general but how Toto is told, including its unanticipated jokes, made me a fan of the film. It is a series of unfortunate and fortunate events that have just the right amount of drama that pierces the heart. You also have to watch out for the characters portrayed by The Bibeth Orteza and find out why Rafa Siguion-Reyna considers his 2 shooting days in Toto his hardest.
Toto is part of this year's MMFF New Wave and I highly recommend that you take a break from the hassles of the season and watch it. Catch its screenings in limited cinemas from December 17-24.
