Tanghalang Ateneo's "Mga Multo": A Haunting Adaptation of Ibsen’s Ghosts
Unveiling the Shadows of the Past
"Mga Multo" centers on Senyora Alvino, who builds an orphanage to honor her late husband’s memory. However, her son Oswaldo’s return from abroad triggers a cascade of revelations, bringing long-buried secrets and suppressed truths to light. As these characters confront their personal ghosts, the play delves into the destructive power of lies and the haunting legacies of the past. This narrative not only explores familial duty and love but also questions whether the truth can liberate or further entrap them in despair.
A Powerful Cast and Creative Team
The production boasts a stellar cast featuring veteran actors from Tanghalang Ateneo's alumni. Miren Alvarez-Fabregas stars as Senyora Elena Alvino, with Yan Yuzon playing Oswaldo Alvino. Supporting them are Joseph Dela Cruz as Pastor Mande, Mark Aranal as Jacobo Estraño, and Sabrina Basilio as Regina Estraño. This assembly of talent ensures a compelling and nuanced performance.
The artistic team behind "Mga Multo" is equally impressive. Direction and translation are helmed by Ron Capinding, with Guelan Varela-Luarca contributing to the translation. The production design is by Gino Gonzales, lighting by Monino Duque with assistant Andrei Fabricante, and makeup by Ara Fernando. Jean Pierre Reniva handles costume design, Andy Reysio-Cruz oversees sound design, Danilo Vaquilar Jr. is the photographer, and Beatrice José is in charge of graphic design.
