MSO Concerto Competition Winners Take GSIS Theater on Oct 15
Manila loves a good reveal. On Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at 7:30 PM, the GSIS Theater becomes a listening room for possibility as the Manila Symphony Orchestra presents eleven young soloists from the 2025 MSO Concerto Competition. This is not just a winners’ night. It is a progress report on where our next generation is headed, with full orchestra as witness.
Why this night counts
The MSO Concerto Competition began in the 1960s and helped usher artists like Cecile Licad, Raul Sunico, Corazon Pineda-Kabayao, and Cecilia Basilio-Roxas into the national conversation. Revived this year as MSO warms up for its centennial in 2026, the search drew 48 entrants from around the country and distilled them to 11 soloists. Executive director and associate conductor Jeffrey Solares will be on the podium, shaping each debut with the band that has scored so many chapters of our music history.

Listen for
The glow of first statements and the grit of pacing under pressure. Mendelssohn’s lyric line, Paganini’s fireworks, Lalo’s Iberian color, Rodrigo’s aching slow movement, Mozart’s clean architecture, and Liszt with the lights turned up. More than titles, the interest is in tone, intent, and risk. These are young artists choosing how to speak.
