Bálay Pinoy: Embracing and Educating Through Filipino Values Month

November is a special month for Filipinos as the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) collaborates with KLUBI Weavers Organization to celebrate the 2023 National Observance of the Filipino Values Month (FVM). In line with Presidential Proclamation No. 479 signed on October 25, 1994, the month-long celebration, dubbed "Bálay Pinoy," aims to bring attention to the 20 core and shared values that define the Filipino spirit.

Unveiling the 20 Filipino Values
The values, carefully identified through interviews with key groups and individuals across the nation, include love for family and community, faith, education, lifelong learning, health and wellness, addressing basic needs, ensuring work and livelihood, self-development, life purpose and happiness, resilience, honesty and integrity, peace and development, human rights, shared responsibility for the common good, care for the environment, love for country, good governance, upholding the rule of law, valuing culture, arts, and sciences, and creative excellence and innovation.

Bálay Pinoy School Caravan: Bringing Values to Life
To commemorate Bálay Pinoy, the NCCA is spearheading various activities, including school caravans in different provinces and seminars for educators and students. The school caravan will bring an educational and entertaining program to selected schools across each Island Cluster, utilizing the NCCA Values Formation Program materials as engaging learning tools.

The program during the school caravan will integrate local talents, providing a fun and memorable way for students to learn about the essential values that shape Filipino culture. The Mindanao leg of Bálay Pinoy will kick off in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, on October 24, 2023, and continue with school visits, culminating in the National Capital Region in the first week of December.

Values Seminar for Educators, Advocates, and Majors
Recognizing educators as key influencers in values education, Bálay Pinoy, in partnership with various government agencies and private institutions, will conduct seminars and workshops. Target participants include Values Education Teachers, Values Advocates, and organizations adhering to values formation.

Additional programs include a webinar series on Values Education, in collaboration with PSEP Inc., and a seminar for PNU Values Education Majors in partnership with Philippine Normal University Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences. These initiatives aim to orient and equip educators with the 20 values and teaching materials produced by the NCCA.

Embracing Bálay Pinoy
Bálay Pinoy, a Proto-Austronesian word meaning house, symbolizes a structure where Filipino families develop a values system. As we celebrate Filipino Values Month, let's embrace and appreciate the richness of our culture and traditions.

For more information on the Bálay Pinoy celebration, contact the NCCA Values Formation Program at values@ncca.gov.ph or visit the Bálay Pinoy Facebook page. Let's come together to foster a society built on trust, resilience, and the core values that make us proud Filipinos.
