Dining with Frienemies: The Reconciliation Dinner

The Reconciliation Dinner is a one-act play written by Floy Quintos and directed by Dexter M. Santos. It explores the lives of two close families, the Medinas and the Valderamas, as they confront their differences against political turmoil in the Philippines. The play opens with an intimate dinner at the Medinas' home in 2016, where tensions flare up during a discussion about then-President Rodrigo Duterte's policies and leadership style. The two families agree to keep their political views separate and maintain their friendships despite their disagreements.

Over the years, the families' opposing views become more pronounced, causing emotional damage to their relationships. As the most polarizing national elections in recent history approach, lines are drawn, and the families' political colors are made Facebook Official. But before they sever ties entirely, tragedy brings the Medinas and the Valderamas together again, leading to a reconciliation dinner.

The Reconciliation Dinner explores how far people are willing to sacrifice their principles and ideals for the sake of their relationships. The play features a powerhouse ensemble of actors, including Stella Cañete-Mendoza and Frances Makil-Ignacio, as well as seasoned performers such as Randy Medel Villarama, Jojo Cayabyab, Nelsito Gomez, Mica Pineda, and Phi Palmos.

The production is a collaboration between Quintos and Santos, who have worked together on several theater productions, including The Kundiman Party, Angry Christ, Ang Huling Lagda ni Apolinario Mabini, Ang Nawalang Kapatid, and Collection. The creative team includes John Batalla for lights and Mitoy Sta. Ana for set and costume, Arvy Dimaculangan for sound, and Steven Tansiongco for video and poster design. Jojit Lorenzo, Vlad Gonzales, and Dino Dimar are the photographers, Joshua Caesar Chan is the production manager, and Rico Angelo Blanco is the stage manager.

The Reconciliation Dinner first premiered in November 2022 and received rave reviews and packed houses. It returns to the stage at the Power Mac Center Spotlight, Circuit Makati, from May 13 to 28, 2023, in light of the recent national elections. Take advantage of this dark comedy that explores the complexities of personal relationships and political differences.
