Unveiling the Darkness: 'Ang Unang Aswang' Set to Captivate Audiences from October 4

In a thrilling culmination of the Far Eastern University Theater Guild's (FTG) 89th season, the highly anticipated production, "Ang Unang Aswang," is poised to take center stage alongside the FEU Center for the Arts (FCA). Written by Palanca awardee playwright Rody Vera and brought to life under the direction of Mr. Dudz Teraña, a distinguished member of the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) and the appointed Artistic Director of FTG, this play promises to be a spellbinding journey into the heart of the wilderness.

Step into the shadows of a perilous forest, where the Aswang roams with sharp teeth, venomous stares, and the untamed ferocity of a wild beast. Amidst unfamiliar surroundings, the Aswang embarks on a quest to unearth her identity. Will her curiosity lead her to the discovery of her true self? Or will a heart-wrenching act by a young boy unleash her primal instincts, compelling her to consume her own kin?

The exploration of fear and hesitation unfolds through the haunting melodies of the chorus, their voices whispering like winds through the forest. The elements in the woods add their own chants, swaying to the rhythmic sounds of bamboo. This immersive experience invites audiences to confront the depths of their own fears and confrontations.

The pivotal role of the 'Aswang' will be alternately portrayed by the talented Dianne Andallo (ITHM ’26), Jazzie Alejo (ITHM ’24), Brigitta Marilla (IAS ’25), and Margarita Barrameda (IAS ’26). Raffaele Pascua (IAS ’24) and Arvin Jade Javier (IAS ’26) will alternate as the formidable 'Aso.' Davewyn Macawile (IAS ’25) takes on the role of the mysterious 'Pusa,' while Jonas Cunanan (IAS ’24) embodies the enigmatic 'Baboy Ramo.' Aaron Bayani (FIT ’25) assumes the character of 'The Binata,' and Kesiah Aritao (IAS ’25) portrays 'The Asawa.'

Mark your calendars for the playdates, running from October 4 to December 9, 2023, every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The captivating performances unfold at 6:00 PM in the FEU Center for the Arts Studio, Ground Floor of the Engineering Building, FEU Manila, Nicanor Reyes Street, Sampaloc, Manila, 1008 Metro Manila.

Tickets are available at 200 PHP for the FEU community and 400 PHP for guests, providing an accessible yet enthralling experience for all.
