"Strings of Gold": The Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra Returns Triumphant from Europe!

The MiraNila Heritage House & Library is set to host an extraordinary musical event on October 1, 2024, titled “Strings of Gold: The Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra Returns Triumphant from Europe.” The event will take place at The Gallery MiraNila and promises to be a spectacular evening of classical music that you won't want to miss!

A Triumphant Return

Fresh from their European success, the Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra (MSJO) is riding high after winning the Gold Prize and the Grand Prix at the 13th Bratislava International Youth Music Festival in Slovakia last July. Their exceptional performance earned them the highest honors in their first participation at the festival, where only two Grand Prix awards were given—MSJO for their orchestra and Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool Pretoria from South Africa for their choir.

That same month, the MSJO wowed audiences in Vienna, Austria, clinching the top prize at the prestigious 2024 Summa Cum Laude International Music Festival. This marks their second golden win, having first taken home the honor in 2021. Competing against 140 orchestras from 33 countries, the MSJO once again proved their musical prowess on the global stage.

A Stellar Repertoire

In celebration of their victory, the MSJO will perform a delightful mix of classical masterpieces and popular classics, including works by Josef Suk, Antonio Vivaldi, Antonín Dvořák, Andrea and Ennio Morricone, Harold Arlen, Ryan Cayabyab, and more. They will also feature pieces by local composers Conrado del Rosario, BINI, and Benny Castillon. Expect an evening of lush string arrangements that beautifully blend the traditional and the contemporary, showcasing the remarkable talent of these young musicians.

About the MSJO

The Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra serves as the training ground for the next generation of Philippine musicians. Composed of students aged 9 to 26, the MSJO has gained international recognition through its impressive tours and competition wins across Austria, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Korea, and Myanmar from 2017 to 2019. Several members are prizewinners of both local and international music competitions and are currently pursuing further studies at prestigious institutions like Juilliard and Mozarteum University in Salzburg.

Supported by Standard Insurance Inc. under their motto “In Pursuit of Excellence,” the MSJO continues to represent the finest in Philippine youth orchestral music.
