CAST PH Brings "Gruesome Playground Injuries" to the Stage This November
Fresh from a sold-out run of Othello, CAST PH is back with an electrifying new production this November, offering audiences an intimate look at the strange, sometimes brutal, intersections of friendship, trauma, and resilience. The play, Gruesome Playground Injuries by Rajiv Joseph, explores the life-spanning connection between childhood friends Doug and Kayleen as they come together over the scars—literal and metaphorical—that shape their lives.
First staged Off-Broadway in 2011, Gruesome Playground Injuries has become a global sensation, with productions staged across the United States and around the world. This November, Filipino theater lovers will get to experience the play's unique blend of dark humor and raw emotion at the Mirror Studio Theater in Poblacion, Makati.
The story follows Doug and Kayleen over the course of 30 years, with each meeting marked by a different physical or emotional wound. Through violence, self-harm, suicide, and abuse, the characters confront the painful, gritty realities of human relationships. Despite—or perhaps because of—the physical and emotional scars they accumulate, Doug and Kayleen find themselves drawn together time and again.
Directed by Nelsito Gomez, the CAST PH production brings together a stellar cast and crew. Acclaimed actors Topper Fabregas (Bar Boys A New Musical, Ang Huling El Bimbo the Musical) and Missy Maramara (The Half-Life of Marie Curie, GRACE) take on the roles of Doug and Kayleen, promising a powerful and emotionally charged performance. Adding to the immersive experience are Loy Arcenas (Set Design), Paul Adrian Martinez (Costume Design), Miyo Sta. Maria (Lighting Design), Carlos Siongco (Special Effects Makeup Design), Zoë de Ocampo (Graphic Design), and Juri Ito (Intimacy Coordination).
In addition to bringing this thought-provoking story to the stage, CAST PH aims to give back to the community. A portion of the total ticket sales will be donated to Tahanan Sta. Luisa (TSL), a crisis intervention center for young girls who have suffered abuse and exploitation on the streets of Manila. Through TSL, these girls are provided with education, empowerment, and the chance to rebuild their lives.
Tickets are now available for the opening weekend: November 22, 23, and 24 at 8 PM. Early bird tickets are available for PHP 1000 until October 31, 2024. From November 1 onwards, regular ticket prices will be PHP 1200. To secure your seats, visit bit.ly/GruesomeMNL2024 and be part of this unforgettable theatrical experience.
