Are you ready to step into an enchanted forest where love, magic, and mischief collide? Tanghalang Ateneo, the longest-running theater company of the Ateneo de Manila University's Loyola Schools, invites you to experience their 46th season's trainee production: Pangarap/Panaginip.
This spellbinding play is a devised adaptation of National Artist for Literature and Theater Rolando S. Tinio’s Filipino translation, "Pangarap sa Isang Gabi ng Gitnang Tag-Araw", based on William Shakespeare’s timeless comedy, "A Midsummer Night’s Dream".
A Night of Whimsy and Wonder
Set in a mystical forest just outside Athens, Pangarap/Panaginip weaves together the stories of two couples defying the odds to be with their true loves. Meanwhile, a group of earnest actors rehearses for a performance at the Duke and Duchess's upcoming wedding. Little do they know, the forest is alive with powerful magical beings whose playful interference leads to a night filled with whimsical chaos and unexpected revelations.
As dreams and reality blur under the moonlit sky, characters grapple with enchantments, mistaken identities, and the complexities of the heart. It's a celebration of desire, ambition, and transformation that promises to leave audiences enchanted.
Honoring a Legacy, Embracing the Future
This production is not just a theatrical performance; it's a tribute to Sir Ricardo ‘Ricky’ G. Abad, Tanghalang Ateneo’s longest-serving artistic director. Pangarap/Panaginip embodies his legacy of blending classical narratives with local culture, emphasizing eloquent storytelling and collective wisdom.
Moreover, the play showcases the fresh talents of Tanghalang Ateneo's newest trainees, marking their debut under the company's mentorship. It's a glimpse into the future of Philippine theater, highlighting the organization's commitment to nurturing the next generation of artists.
