The much-loved Tabing Ilog is back, bringing the heartwarming and relatable story of friendship, love, and family to a new generation of theatergoers. After its successful run in November 2023, Tabing Ilog: The Musical is ready to make waves again with its upcoming rerun at the PETA Theater in Quezon City, beginning November 8 and running until December 1, 2024.
A Nostalgic Tale Returns to the Stage
Over two decades since the original TV series aired, Tabing Ilog continues to resonate with Filipino audiences. ABS-CBN, in collaboration with the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA), breathes new life into this beloved story, proving that its themes of friendship, family, dreams, and identity transcend generations. Set against the backdrop of the fast-paced modern world, the musical adaptation introduces Tabing Ilog to today's Gen Z, while still capturing the hearts of the original fans from the 2000s.
Originally conceptualized in 2019, the musical adaptation faced delays due to the pandemic. However, ABS-CBN and PETA, having seen the success of their first collaboration with Walang Aray, brought Tabing Ilog: The Musical to life in 2023. It quickly became a hit, with audiences asking for more.
The Artistic Force Behind the Musical
Directed by Phil Noble, with a script by Eljay Deldoc and music composed by Vince de Jesus, the musical promises to be as heartwarming and engaging as ever. The show's themes of love, family, and self-discovery are made all the more powerful through stunning performances by Star Magic artists who have reprised their roles for this much-anticipated rerun.
During the mediacon held at B Hotel in Quezon City on October 9, 2024, PETA Plus Program Director Melvin Lee shared his pride in witnessing the theater growth of Star Magic talents. "For most of them, it was their first time to do professional theater at natutuwa po kami sa PETA na kasama kami sa kanilang theater journey," he said, acknowledging how the young actors have honed their craft throughout the process.
A Stellar Cast Returns
Star Magic artists who brought life to the characters of Eds, Rovic, Corrine, Fonzy, and the rest of the gang are set to return for the rerun. Expect to see the stellar performances of Vivoree, Sheena Belarmino, Benedix Ramos, Anji Salvacion, Kobie Brown, Jordan Andrews, Kiara Takahashi, Andi Abaya, Omar Uddin, and BGYO's Akira Morishita once again.
Speaking about his return as Rovic, Akira shared, "Super thankful po ako sa mga kasama namin kasi na-mold din po ‘yung utak ko. Mas magiging malalim pa si Rovic this rerun." His castmate, Vivoree, echoed the excitement: "Mas passionate kaming lahat this time kasi it’s a rerun. We want to do something better than what we did sa first run."
BINI's Jhoanna Robles is also returning to the cast, promising special performances that fans won't want to miss.
Alongside the younger stars, seasoned theater actors Joann Co, Red Nuestro, Gimbey Dela Cruz, Yeyin Dela Cruz, and Adrian Lindayag will lend their talents to the production, joined by Lance Reblando, Vyen Villanueva, Teetin Villanueva, Jude Hindumdum, Vino Mabalot, and Miah Canton.
